At the close of every year, Creative Gateways likes to reflect on what happened and discuss what there is to come…
2018 has been a busy and eventful year for Creative Gateways. We were thrilled to have both Hopi artist Gerry Quotskuyva join us and watercolorist Meg Munro return to us as resident artists. Their work and presence has made the gallery a brighter, more creative, and more collaborative space.
Creative Gateways also went through an exterior transformation, getting repainted and landscaped in conjunction with it becoming available, for the first time, as a rental space. We have hosted several successful events this year, and look forward to hosting more in the year to come.
Perhaps the largest change for us in 2018 was having Kuivato join the Creative Gateways family! After acquiring the gallery, we went through an extensive and beautiful renovation that made the space even more fit for displaying the amazing pieces from our represented artists. We continue to be proud to carry on its long legacy as a staple business of Sedona.
The year ahead will be filled with even more excitement and events. Firstly, the AMusinGlass studio at Creative Gateways will continue to offer monthly fused glass classes, as well as monthly open studio time. Resident artist and instructor Pilisa Rainbow Lady can help you learn new glass skills or improve the skills you already have. These spaces fill up fast, so be sure to sign up!
Secondly, Creative Gateways will continue to have Artist Spotlights highlighting our resident artists, while Kuivato will continue to have monthly exhibitions in tandem with the Sedona Gallery Association’s “1st Friday” events. In 2019, however, eight of these months will feature visiting artists who will be present at the opening receptions to talk about their work and process! It is a special treat you won’t want to miss.
Additionally, Kuivato will also be hosting several Trunk Shows throughout the year, where one of our represented artists will personally display and sell exclusive pieces right in the gallery. It is a wonderful chance to not only see new pieces from your favorite artists, but to get to know the artists themselves.
Creative Gateways and Kuivato are also excited to announce that we have joined Artsy, where all our pieces will be categorized, viewable, and able to be purchased – as well as displaying all our events and exhibitions. Artsy is an amazing resource, and one that we are proud to be a part of.
