Each month, the Creative Gateways studios chooses a theme to inspire our work and act as a focus for our first Friday exhibition. Here is what’s coming up in May…
Capturing the Soul in Art
“Art is the journey of a free soul.” – Alev Oguz
Many artists create pieces and afterwards say this represents who they are. Others have an idea in mind and think about a way to capture it and then create it. However, the best artists create with their whole being and trust that as they are creating, the work will come out of their deepest self. With every brush stroke, swipe of the hand, curve of the material, they reveal their soul in that piece. Even after completion, part of them remains to share those experiences with the viewer.
This May, Creative Gateways celebrates the connection between art, artist, and audience in our new exhibition Notions of the Soul. This is a month for discovering the connection that an artist experiences within themselves when creating a work of art. It is also a time for the viewers to be a part of these experiences. Join us in this enlightenment of communicating emotions and stories beyond the artists and into the audience.
Experiencing the Works
Creative Gateways and AMusinGlass founder Pilisa Rainbow Lady finds remarkable ways to imbue her ideals into her intention plates. When working in her studio, as she is creating the intention plates, she is focusing on generating those thoughts of which she wants to infuse into her works. Through this process, she offers to viewers an opportunity to experience and embody those intentions by passing them from herself to the audience.
Like with “Passion,” Pilisa uses vivid glass colors of reds and yellows to exemplify that word and then creating the symbol to represent that intention. The audience can receive these intentions and thus focus on redirecting those ideals into their lives and the people they share them with.
Michael and Sumati Colpitts also offer a glimpse at the spiritual goals and joy they create in their pieces. Michael’s paintings always possess an energy within them that the audience can see and experience when looking at his pieces. As with one of his works “Flight”, the viewer can feel an uplifting energy that encourages challenging yourself and others.
Sumati has a very unique but direct method of connecting one soul to another in her animal pieces. The eyes that look into the viewers are the windows to each animals spirit. These finishing touches within each piece personify their intellect and openness to the audience. Not only does it draw in the viewer with it’s powerful gaze, but it offers part of itself to be absorbed by the audience for a long-lasting effect.
Join us at the Creative Gateways gallery as we experience the expression of our deepest selves, at the opening reception of “Notions of the Soul: First Friday Exhibition,” Friday, May 4th, from 5-8pm. Browse the gallery, meet the artists, and enjoy small bites and wine.
